Job Description

The Luton & Dunstable University Hospital is a highly rated, diverse and forward thinking place to work. We are a Foundation Trust serving a multi-cultural population of over 350,000 across Bedfordshire and North Hertfordshire.

The Trust Boards of Luton and Dunstable University Hospital and Bedford Hospital are working towards becoming a single new NHS Foundation Trust with effect from 1st April 2020. This will bring many benefits for patients and opportunities for staff. Bothhospitals will retain their identity with individual hospital names and key services will remain on both sites and be managed as single teams across the whole Bedfordshire catchment area. Through tremendous commitment and hard work, our Paediatrics, Emergency Care Services and Outpatient Services achieved “Outstanding” in our 2016 Care Quality Commission inspection. Similarly we had an overall rating of “Good” across the rest of the hospital. We were praised as compassionate, empathetic and exhibiting patient outcomes above the average when compared with other acute Trusts.

We are a regional centre of excellence for several key specialties including, Obesity Research, Neurophysiology, Cardiology, Ophthalmology and Cancer Services. We are a tertiary level NICU provider and one of the largest centres for breast screening in the country.

The hospital continues to be committed to delivering the best patient care using the best clinical knowledge and technology available.

A part time opportunity has arisen to become a member of the Switchboard Team.

The candidate must have good communication & IT skills. Local knowledge of the L&D layout and the IT systems used, (Pimsi, Excel, Extramed, Cleric & QFM) would be an advantage. The applicant will need a flexible approach and be able to work both, in a team and on their own initiative on day or evening shift. The Switchboard operating hours are 24/7 and 365 days of the year

The applicant will need to be enthusiastic and adaptable within the Switchboard and its varied roles. The applicant would be dealing with all types of Estates and transport requests from across the Trust, outside contractors and dealing with the general public as well. They will be working in a busy environment and must be able to prioritise telephone calls and workloads.

Hours of Work are Mon to Thur 10.00 to 14.30 and 10.00 to 14.00 Friday
