Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals (BSUH) is the regional teaching hospital, providing general acute services for patients under the care of the Central Sussex and East Surrey Commissioning Alliance and tertiary services for patients across Sussex and the South East of England.

Working as one hospital across two main sites in Brighton and Haywards Heath, we treat over half a million patients a year. BSUH provides tertiary services for specialties such as Vascular, Cardiac, Renal, Major Trauma, Cancer, Neurosciences, Stroke, Ophthalmology and HIV.

Our Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital was rated ‘outstanding’ in the last CQC inspection. The Trust is part of the Frontier Pathology NHS Partnership and has a dedicated infectious diseases service The Pharmacy department has established links with the University of Brighton, University of Sussex, Brighton & Sussex Medical School and University Teaching Hospital, Lusaka, Zambia.

Enough about us, what about you…..are you a highly motivated, innovated and passionate team player with the clinical skills & knowledge to join our antimicrobial pharmacy service? In particular we are looking for an individual to be integral in delivering actions to ensure the Trust’s achievement of the National CQUIN, ‘Reducing the Impact of Serious Infection’.

You will provide expertise in antimicrobial stewardship ensuring a consistently high level of pharmacy input in line with local and national initiatives including the on-going development and review of antimicrobial guidelines & policy, monitoring of antimicrobial consumption & expenditure, all aspects of clinical governance and co-ordination of audit and quality improvement projects. You will provide clinical pharmacy services to the clinical infection unit and the Trust’s outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT) service with opportunities to use a prescribing qualification.

As a teaching hospital, education and training is an integral component of this role encompassing practice supervision of undergraduates, pre-registration pharmacists and the line management and Educational Supervisor role of band 6/7 pharmacists. We encourage Interprofessional Learning and have been recognised for educational initiatives such as joint teaching activities for Foundation Doctors and Preregistration Pharmacists. The Pharmacy department embraces supportive professional development of all grades.

Although based primarily at the Brighton site you will be required to work across sites.
