Job Description

Senior Technologist - Feasibility
To direct and deliver materials and components projects involving the development of new or improvement in existing Technologies/Methods/Processes.
  • Applies knowledge in a key area specifically fundamental understanding of component materials and the effects of novel technologies to drive delivery of projects.  
  • Approach to task is by selection of appropriate means learned from knowledge and experience and thorough understanding of material science and how it can contribute to product performance.  
  • Applies principles of exploration and knowledge scouting to find the best partners and technologies to deliver the projects.  
  • Ability to address new problems from 1st principles. 
  • Identify requirements for and approve procedures/process to ensure ‘Best Practice’ is followed. 

  • Planning – medium-long term workload.  
  • Budget – inform forecast and adhere to financial process and controls.  
  • Application of formal project management.  
  • Key representative in project interactions with internal stakeholders and cross functional teams.  
  • Key representative in interactions with external suppliers on materials and components.  
  • Write external technical reports, publications and presentations.  
  • Author and deliver R&D reports and presentations.  
  • May participate in BAT engagement with the scientific and regulatory communities.  
  • Coach/train in Senior Technician/Senior Technologist/Officer activities.    Innovation 
  • Development work supported by objective evidence and validation.  
  • Interpretation of data submitted for Management/Technical Review. 
  • Equivalent to 1st science based degree 
  • Understanding of the component parts of cigarettes and what function each component plays
  • Awareness of the consumer drivers and research and it’s vital connection to what needs to be delivered
  • Basic understanding of the key chemistry attributes of tobacco
  • Basic understanding of cigarette components and their role in the overall product
  • Understanding of the potential value of an innovation from a consumer or business perspective
  • Ability to influence across the team and communicate in clear and simple terms
  • Creative, entrepreneurial, dynamic, tenacious,  receptive to change, focused
  • Awareness of analytic techniques used to measure material properties.
