Aker Solutions' Global Maintenance and Operations Contract (GMOC) Team based at the Shetland Gas Plant (SGP) is responsible for delivering Operations, Maintenance and Engineering Services to our Client, Total E&P. We need experienced personnel who can strengthen our team and support our ambitious growth plans within the Oil & Gas market.
We are currently seeking an experienced Rigger to support the Shetland Gas Plant.  This is a core position, working on rotation and due to the nature of the role, candidates should currently reside locally within Shetland.

  • Carry out rigging and lifting operations in compliance with Aker Solutions P605 lifting procedure, adhering to site rules and the lift plan

  • Prepare site for rigging and lifting operations 

  • Undertake and control lifting operations 

  • Working safely with rigging and lifting equipment / accessories, also being able to apply manufacturers and industry best practices when using the equipment / accessories

  • Working safely with Mobile cranes as per BS7121 

  • Conduct pre/post-use inspection of lifting equipment / accessories, document all inspections within the site rigging loft and report, record and quarantine all defective lifting equipment / accessories 

  • Review lift plans in conjunction with permit to work prior to work scope commencing, sign onto lift plan and permit to work when satisfied with method / safety controls and stipulations  

  • To perform all required discipline tasks, safely, consistently and in accordance with project requirements, procedures and specifications, STOP the lifting operation and or task when uncertainty arises or deviation of the permit to work and lift plan

  • Read, understand and implement all applicable company / project policies, working practices and procedures, ensuring at all times that the workscope is completed safely and to a high standard

  • Complete all workscope in accordance with applicable engineering workpack / jobcard instructions, associated procedures, lift plan and drawings / sketches 

  • Awareness of LOLER 1998 & PUWER 1998 regulations

  • Recognition of construction materials, hand tools, structural steel members, pipework and Live systems/Plant, Recognition of construction bolts and fixings.

  • Recognition and safe use of general day to day lifting equipment and accessories

  • Can demonstrate the ability to read, interpret and implement procedures / specifications / drawings / sketches, lift plans etc.

  • Industrial experience in fabrication, construction and maintenance on petro-chemical sites

  • ECITB NVQ Level 3 in capital plant steel structures / moving loads or SVQ Moving loads (optional)

  • Demonstrable experience within rigging and lifting operations working on petrochemical sites

  • OPITO stage 3/4 Rigger assessment

  • Beginners Slinger / Signaller course (BS7121 - working with mobile cranes) and / or equivalent
