Job Description

Refugee Support Project Volunteer - FRIS
Location: Belfast

About the role
As a Refugee Project Volunteer you would be helping asylum-seekers and refugees adjust to life in a new country offering valuable support  and advice to ease the process for service users, and to support a team of caseworkers

About the Team
We use kindness to help those in crisis.

Every year thousands of refugees, asylum seekers and migrants arrive in the UK with little support, money, or opportunities. Sometimes these people don't even have the means to find and contact their loved ones back home. It's our job to do what we can to help.

We're a diverse, busy team dotted all over the country who share the common goal of doing what we can to make refugee lives that little bit brighter. From providing emotional support to reuniting families, we're committed to helping as many people as we can in as many ways as we can. Seeing the look on someone's face when they are put back in contact with a partner, parent, or child, that they thought they'd never see again is simply priceless.

The Family Reunion Integration Service aims to work with 900 reunited refugee families (3,000 people), helping them to integrate into their new communities. Around one in three refugees come into the UK via family reunion. Unlike those who arrive through the asylum process or resettlement programme, people who come into the UK on a Family Reunion visa are not offered any formal support to access services and are left on their own to navigate our complex health, education, housing and welfare services. This can be a huge challenge when they are already facing issues that come from long periods of family separation and the trauma of conflict. Through our work with reunited families we recognise that dedicated support is required to help this particular group of refugees.
