NHS Grampian invites enthusiastic applicants for a 6 month Locum Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist with interest in Gastroenterology, based within Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital (RACH). The post holder will join 2 other consultants in Paediatric Gastroenterology based at RACH and working within the North of Scotland Paediatric Gastroenterology Network. The successful appointee will contribute to a 1:3 regional (covering Tayside, Perth and Kinross, Grampian, Moray, Highlands and Islands) Paediatric Gastroenterology Consultant of the Week service and out of hours telephone Paediatric Gastroenterology on-call service.

The Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (PGHAN) service provides specialist care to a population of 1.4 million over a wide geographic area through a managed clinical network with dedicated PGHAN staff in Raigmore Hospital, Inverness; Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital (RACH), Aberdeen and Ninewells Hospital in Tayside. This post is based at RACH where the majority of the inpatient caseload is located. Though endoscopy is undertaken in RACH and Ninewells, the endoscopy attached to this post (should the successful applicant have endoscopy competancy) will all be in Aberdeen. The RACH outpatient clinics and support to the Highland PGHAN service is now almost exclusively via video clinics, though an in-person service remains (Dr Chalmers) to Tayside.

RACH provides specialist inpatient and outpatient care in Medical Paediatrics, General Paediatric Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Plastic Surgery, ENT, Dermatology, Gastroenterology, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dental Services, Ophthalmology, Oncology, Haematology and Clinical Genetics, as well as Child and Family Mental Health Service. Additionally, the hospital has its own Accident and Emergency Department under direct Consultant supervision and its own departments of Radiology, Pharmacy, Dietetics, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Play and Social Work.

A healthy balance between activities at work and out of work is readily achievable at NHSG. Aberdeen offers all the attractions of any major city. Aberdeenshire boasts many picturesque towns and villages within easy commuting distance and provides access to an enormous range of outdoor pursuits, ranging from fishing to skiing. There are excellent facilities available for high quality education, both state and private. Excellent transport links ensure that Edinburgh and Glasgow are less than 3 hours by train and the Aberdeen airport has multiple flights daily to London and many other destinations across the UK and Europe.
