LUTON AND DUNSTABLE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL NHS FOUNDATION TRUST & BEDFORD HOSPITAL NHS TRUST

 LOCUM CONSULTANT IN ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY

(FIXED TERM CONTRACT – 6 months with potential to extend)

Applications are invited for the above new locum Consultant post based at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital NHS Foundation Trust with delegated sessions at Bedford Hospital NHS Trust. This full-time appointment will be made in accordance with the terms and conditions of service for the 2003 consultant contract (England).

This post is an exciting opportunity for a locum appointment ahead of substantive recruitment. The appointee will join a well established team of  the 8 Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons within the Beds, Herts & Bucks Oral & Maxillofacial surgery network providing services for Luton & Dunstable Hospital, Bedford Hospital, Lister Hospital in Stevenage, QEII Hospital in Welwyn and Milton Keynes Hospital, covering a population of 1.5 million.

It is expected that the post-holder will be competent in assessing and carrying out the full range of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, with a sub-specialty interest in Maxillofacial trauma surgery and surgical dermatology. All in-patient services and on-call duties have been centralised to Luton & Dunstable University Hospital. Out-patient clinics, day case surgery and local anesthetic minor oral surgery are undertaken in all of the units.

The Trust received an overall Good for services at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital following its CQC inspection.

The Trust is an acute hospital with 660 beds renowned for its friendly atmosphere and good working relationships.  Our Foundation Trust status has enabled considerable expansion in facilities, staff and hence the services offered.  The Teaching Hospital status with UCL and the Royal Free has strengthened our Teaching and Research and Development programme and brings a more academic environment to the hospital.  Our links with undergraduate students also includes Cambridge Medical School. We are fully committed to teaching and training both undergraduate medical students and post graduate doctors and has an excellent reputation for junior staff training.

The Hospital has easy access to central London and the rural Chilterns. The rural areas include many attractive villages and towns within easy reach of the Hospital including St Albans and Harpenden.  Excellent schools are found nearby.  There is also very good access to the Midlands and London by road using the M1 or A1, or by rail to one of Luton’s three stations.  A direct link using the new ‘Busway’ takes passengers from Luton Train station just 7 minutes to reach a stop within a short walking distance of the hospital.  London Luton Airport is within fifteen minutes drive from the hospital.

Residence is required within ten miles by road of the hospital.

Applicants must be fully registered on the UK General Medical Council & General Dental Council’s Specialist Register.  Specialist Registrars may apply if within 6 months of CCT at the date of interview.
