The Opportunity:

We are looking for a Legal Counsel to join a dynamic in-house legal team. This is a rare opportunity to join the legal team of QBE International, offering opportunities to advise and support Executive Management, the Insurance and Reinsurance business and other key functions (such as Finance, Treasury and Risk) on a wide variety of matters.

General Description

As a Legal Counsel for QBE, you will advise on a wide variety of legal matters supporting and working with the team’s senior lawyers in areas as diverse as corporate, commercial, distribution, treasury and employment disputes. You will also be able to work on a number of discrete matters without direct senior lawyer involvement, and will evolve to have your own client relationships, supervising the team’s trainee or paralegals where appropriate.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience in a leading City law practice or in-house, ideally at an international London Market Insurer, Reinsurer or Broker
  • Financial services sector experience
  • Ability to recognize areas of legal and regulatory risk and recommend solutions appropriate for level of experience
  • Common sense approach -consider legal issues without losing sight of the business objective
  • Academics and technical ability
  • Project management skills
  • A team player with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Down to earth and a good communicator
  • Confidence to act independently and make technical decisions within competence, with ability to judge when to seek advice
  • Experience of direct client contact
