In order to contribute to a low carbon future, we have committed to treble our current Renewables output by 2030.

What is the Role?

As Lead Data Engineer, you’ll be part of our expanding Digital Ventures team, working with the business on some of the most challenging and high-profile data science problems in energy. You’ll build innovative proofs of concept for complex problems across the Renewables business unit and be expected to support the strategy of growing this team by seeking out the most impactful projects for the team and building good relationships throughout the business to articulate the strategy.

Some of your other main accountabilities will include;

-Proposing innovative ways data science can be applied within SSE Renewables to feed into development of new processes, projects and services.

-Reviewing and optimising existing data analysis processes by seeking opportunities for automation and delivering improved actionable insight.

-Exploring the application of machine learning to increase efficiency and seek better ways of using operational data.

-Visualising and dash boarding data and findings in order to effectively share and communicate results.

-Supporting management and engineering staff where required with data science and knowledge.

-Representing SSE Renewables at industry forums, demonstrating capability, competency and experience to stakeholders.

What do I need?

We are looking for someone who is  inquisitive, interested in deep dive analysis and problem solving whilst also remaining focused on the big picture. You’ll have experience working at a senior level within the renewable energy sector and have good business domain knowledge. As a creative problem solver, you’ll pride yourself on your rigorous attention to detail and interest in data-driven, evidence-based methodologies.

Due to the nature of this role, you will also require the following;

-A degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics or other STEM discipline.

-Demonstrable experience in the delivery of Python or Matlab programming for the purposes of data analysis.

-Experience designing and delivering AI algorithms with a specific focus on machine learning.

-Demonstrable experience working with relational databases to manage and extract data.

-Proven ability in creating interactive dashboards with Power BI, Tableau or an equivalent.
