LAS ST3 +, Burns & Plastic Surgery

We are looking to recruit to a LAS ST3+ at the Welsh Centre for Burns & Plastic Surgery, Morriston Hospital. The post is not recognised for training but the experience will be comparable to that of an ST3+ and participation in educational programmes, audit and research will be encouraged and supported. There vacancy is due to commence in June 2019 until July 2020.

Due to the length of the vacancy we will only be able to consider those candidates who are able to start the post promptly after interview.

The Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery in Morriston is regarded as one of the premier training centres for plastic surgery training in the UK with close links to the academic plastic surgery research unit ReconRegen and Swansea university medical school.

The posts would be ideal for ambitious trainees looking to gain further experience in plastic surgery in preparation for a future career in plastic surgery.

The Welsh Centre for Burns & Plastic Surgery already has some of the best facilities in the UK with a 30 bedded burns centre, with its own HDU/ITU for adults and children and integrated operating theatres. There are also 32 adult plastic surgery beds, a 4 bedded plastic surgery HDU, children’s beds and a specialised paediatric HDU as well as fully staffed plastic surgery operating theatres available at all times. The centre is a pilot site for the NHS Modernisation Agency “Action on Plastic Surgery” and is seeking designation as a “Centre of Excellence” by the National Burns Care Group.

Abertawe Bro Morgannwg (ABM) Health Board provides a comprehensive range of community, acute, tertiary, mental health & learning disability services. It serves a local population of over 600,000 people in the areas of Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Bridgend, and the Western Vale of Glamorgan as well as to a broader population on a sub-regional and regional basis. Based near the South Wales Heritage Coastline, the area surrounding the Health Board boasts beautiful scenery, affordable housing, excellent schools and higher education along with good road and rail links to London. The Health Board employs over 16,000 staff, has a budget of over £973M and was established on 1st October 2009. As a University Health Board there are close links with Swansea University and other University College partners in South Wales especially in the areas of research & development and multi-professional teaching. We are located within the second largest acute Health Board in Wales with all major acute specialties on site including a cardiac centre, neurosciences, trauma and orthopaedics, ITU and renal support, providing a particular focus on the management of complex trauma. The Board is now home to a clinical medical school in collaboration with University of Wales College of Medicine and includes a graduate entry medical school.
