Our Practice

Our Programme Management team consists of extremely experienced and proven Financial Services professionals, who draw on their knowledge and experience to help clients initiate, recover and manage large-scale programmes. The team specialises in driving through business critical change, whether it be business transformation, IT led or regulatory programmes.

Working closely with our clients in large organisations; we understand what is really important, offering points of view and advice, supporting them, building confidence and ultimately ensuring efficient delivery.


Through the vast experience we offer by means of the individuals in the team, we assess situations quickly, apply our thinking and improve Executive decision making in our clients. We are looking to expand by recruiting people with an outstanding delivery background in Financial Services, who have the right attitude and commitment needed to work on the very largest and most complex Programmes in the industry.


Programme Management, Senior Manager

As a Senior Manager, delivery excellence comes as standard. You will lead projects and programmes for clients and using your experience and Financial Services knowledge shape initiation, deliver programmes, advise on governance structures and mentor their staff through the programme lifecycle.

You will lead multi-disciplinary E&Y teams, run engagement logistics, take responsibility for the commercial outcome of engagements and play a significant role in developing propositions. We expect a strong background of successful end-to-end programme delivery in blue-chip FS clients.

Working closely with our industry groups and content specialists, and leveraging the EY brand as independent, trusted advisors, we provide our high profile clients with the following range of services:


  • Programme Assurance/“Healthcheck”

  • Helping our clients steer complex critical programmes effectively and maintain focus on achieving the required results

  • Programme Delivery

  • Providing the client side programme management of critical programmes; experience in delivery programmes that address specific business issues

  • Programme Performance & Control

  • Providing rigorous control around change and cost on large programmes with significant third party involvement; enforcing disciplined solution scope control, managing incremental change to avoid uncontrolled cost over-runs

  • Programme Expertise

  • Utilising highly experienced individuals who have ‘lived’ these types of programmes across various sectors; delivering solutions using real, practical insight

  • Cost reduction (including off shoring and outsourcing)

  • Identifying and delivering cost reduction opportunities, including alternative procurement and sourcing solutions UK and abroad

Key Skills Required

We are seeking individuals with consulting experience or individuals who have gained significant programme and business improvement experience within large Financial Services businesses. Candidates must have a true consultative approach to work and it is desirable that they have a professional project or programs management qualification. We are looking for individuals who can demonstrate real impact within business and help transform the large programmes of some of the worlds most respected commercial and public sector organisations.

Personal Attributes Required

  • Leader and team player who can quickly build rapport with the client and demonstrate credibility

  • Highly flexible and a willingness to ‘get hands dirty’ as well as providing strategic direction and leadership

  • Bring FS and project management skills and experience that the client does not have access to internally

  • Exemplary presentation and facilitation skills

  • Ambitious and shows willingness to move career forward quickly through a variety of client interactions and assignments that will push and challenge you on a daily basis

  • Ability to generate significant sales ( £0.75m – I think this should be more)

  • Ability to sell EY’s other services

Client responsibilities

  • Ensure client deliverables are quality focused and delivered on a timely basis

  • Manage multiple stakeholder communities at varying levels, experiences and agenda and be responsible for managing the relationship

  • Adopt a pragmatic approach to issues that underpin client relationships and clearly demonstrate ‘quality in everything that we do’ and the firms values

  • Ensure effective execution of methodologies

  • Utilise existing relationships to develop business opportunities

  • Become the trusted advisor of clients - be seen in the market place and be recognised as a first-choice solutions provider

  • Confront and defend major client issues ( at programme level)

  • Recognise and responds to critical situations

  • Contribute to, and lead the preparation and development of proposals

  • Leverage the EY brand, resource and assets to secure client information

People responsibilities

  • Encourage individual growth through the creations of a teaming / collaborative environment

  • Develop people through effectively supervising, coaching, and mentoring staff

  • Conduct performance reviews and contribute to performance feedback for staff

  • Contribute to people initiatives, including recruiting, retaining and training

  • Maintain an educational program to continually develop personal skills

  • Understand and follow workplace policies and procedures


  • Academic Qualifications Primary Degree (2:1) or above, from a leading university

  • Project or programme management qualifications (desirable)

  • Masters degree ( desirable but not a prerequisite)

  • Significant and deep professional experience of Programme  Management AND

  • Professional project management certification i.e. PMP or Prince 2


  • Large programme management experience and methods/tools

  • Delivery of Business Transformation programmes with scale and complexity ( £10 – 50M programmes)

  • Programme recovery/turn around

  • Analysis of complex or unusual problems and able to deliver insightful and pragmatic solutions

  • Currently working in a Big Four or, global management consultancy firm – with an appropriate programme management background, and track record of engagement delivery, business development and demonstrable skills in the area

  • Operational line management (or business line), typically as manager within business unit, possibly been seconded to a large transformation programme in management role

  • Financial Service industry experience and insight in one of our key sectors; Retail Banking,        Wholesale Banking, Investment Banking, General Insurance, Life and Pensions


EY are currently expanding their Advisory business (and in particular the Performance Improvement team) across the UK.  Consequently we have opportunities in the following locations:

Our projects are delivered across the UK and Europe, hence ability and willingness to travel is essential.
