Volunteer opportunities with the British Red Cross Museum & Archives 2019 

Would you like to be part of an exciting new project researching the artefacts and documents in the British Red Cross Museum & Archives? You can join a volunteer team to help create a Digital Museum celebrating the 150 year anniversary of the organisation.

The British Red Cross Digital Museum will uncover 150 different items from the Museum & Archives and will help tell the story of the British Red Cross, enabling people from around the world to see, hear and read about them for the first time. Objects and documents will be chosen by the project volunteers who will receive training to research, write and record audio explanations to accompany images uploaded to the Digital Museum website. We are looking for volunteers who are interested in history and would like to learn new skills in audio production. No previous audio experience necessary...just an enthusiasm for sharing the fascinating heritage of the British Red Cross.

Next steps:

Over a period of 2 months in 2019, volunteers will:

- attend 2 local training workshops in regional hubs around the UK led by media production company Digital Drama

- undertake independent archive research online flexibly at home using the British Red Cross online database (with remote support where required) to write a short draft script of 3 audio recordings

- record the audio media for the Digital Museum at the final workshop writeup 3 x 200 word catalogue descriptions of your chosen items

In order to take part in the project, volunteers would need to commit to the following:

Training dates:Training workshop - 2nd May at our Manchester

Research period - 2nd - 16th May. Working flexibly at home to research 3 items from the online database and writing draft scripts for your chosen 3 archive items

Recording session -23rd May at our Manchester office

Final stage - You will have another month to write up 3 x 200 word catalogue descriptions of your chosen  3 archive items
