Summary

There is a need to secure an senior solicitor role within Legal Services versed in property and commercial development projects to support the Chippenham Future project going forward.

LIVE∙WORK∙ADVISE

The successful candidate will be part of the Council’s Commercial legal team and will be heavily involved in the all  aspects of the Chippenham Future project as part of a team approach as well as providing general legal commercial support in respect of other Council projects and dealing with complex commercial legal issues within the Council’s business as usual. 

About the role

In this role you will give advice to all departments of the Council. There is a focus on large development projects which will require working with Land and Planning specialists, and some acquaintance with these areas of law will be an advantage. In addition, you will be responsible for and have conduct of an interesting and varied case load covering commercial arrangements, other contracts and grants, corporate governance and advising on procurement procedures and procurement law generally.

It is likely that this need for on-going legal support would be for a period of at least two years but having regard to the nature of the project with key date review stages the Council is looking to offer a fixed term contract of 1 year renewable on 3 months’ notice.

About you

You will have between 1 - 5 years relevant PQE and be comfortable working within a committed and supportive unit. You will have good research and analytical skills. You will have a keen interest in contract law particularly within the local government sphere. Public sector law experience would be beneficial, though not essential. The localism agenda is pushing fundamental change in the way local authorities do business. This is an excellent position for someone who wishes to gain experience in that changing environment.

The successful applicant would be expected to have had relevant experience in contract and procurement law. The applicant should have willingness to develop knowledge of corporate governance concepts.

Your substantive manager must agree to you transferring to the secondment role.  This agreement must be sought in principle before applying for the seconded role.  If the secondment will impact significantly on service delivery, your substantive manager may not agree to the secondment.
