NHS Lanarkshire are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated clinical pharmacist to join our pharmacy team!

This exciting fixed term split post will see you working across two main specialties as an antimicrobial pharmacist within the Antimicrobial Management Team and as an education specialist pharmacist within the Pharmacy Education and Training Team.

Within the antimicrobial team you will provide a safe and effective specialist clinical pharmacy service to patients requiring antimicrobial therapy. Either directly as a member of the multi-disciplinary clinical team or more broadly by active promotion and support to implementation of best practice antimicrobial and infection management initiatives

You will support development of specific prescribing policies, protocols & educational interventions or training packages directed at prescribers, nurses, allied health care professionals & patients with the intention of improving the quality of antimicrobial prescribing and minimize potential patient harm from Healthcare Associated Infections (HAI) & the emergence of multi-drug resistant bacteria. You will also actively support the NHS Lanarkshire Antimicrobial Management Team and attend other multidisciplinary team meetings where deemed essential.

Secondly, you will have the opportunity to work closely with the Pharmacy Education and Training Team to gain experience in providing education, training and support to our foundation pharmacists, student pharmacists and pre-registration trainees. The post will involve travelling between hospital sites so a full, current driving licence and use of own car for work purposes is essential.


Applying candidates should have a masters of Pharmacy Degree, be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council and be able to provide evidence of Continuing Professional Development as detailed by the General Pharmaceutical Council (mandatory requirement).

Relevant post registration experience in hospital pharmacy and demonstrable experience in providing a clinical pharmacy service to a defined patient group is essential for this role.

Candidates should be able to provide evidence of postgraduate training and professional development in clinical pharmacy practice e.g. Stage II Scottish Vocational Training / 1st year clinical diploma. Previous experience in patient information/education as well as experience in supervising staff will be required. An ability to effectively monitor patient's therapeutic regimens in order to ensure effectiveness and reduce toxicity in addition to an ability to work effectively as part of a team, in a pharmacy and multi-disciplinary environment will be essential within this position. Candidates should have good verbal and written communication skills and be self-motivated within the workplace. Proven project/practice research and audit skills are desirable in this role. Candidates should be open to weekend and public holiday working, as well as pharmacy emergency duty service (where appropriate). Candidates should show a willingness to contribute to the general working of the Pharmacy.
