Clinical Fellow to support the implementation of electronic prescribing

Taunton & Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is excited to invite applicants to apply for this fixed term Clinical Fellow post to provide clinical support to the Digital team as they implement electronic prescribing and medicines administration (EPMA) across adult care at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton. This post is suitable for any individual who has graduated in medicine and has provisional or full registration with the GMC.

Taunton and Somerset NHS Trust has an innovative and nationally recognised approach to integrating digital technology into healthcare provision which has led to it being selected as one of the Global Digital Exemplar sites tasked with forging a blueprint for digitisation relevant to similar sized trusts.  

The successful applicant will work with both the digital team and the clinical teams on the wards where, following suitable training, they will provide support and training to the existing clinical teams as they transition from paper based prescribing to a digital system. The hours of duty would be limited to normal working hours and it may be possible to provide flexibility if required. There is no on call commitment although at the post holder’s request, it may be possible to participate in either the surgical or medical emergency out of hours rotas.   

The post holder will be based with the digital clinical team led by a consultant surgeon and consultant rheumatologist, who between them, share the role of chief clinical information officer. There is a strong focus on using leveraging the potential of digitalised clinical data to improve patient care. We have links with Exeter University Living Systems Institute and currently co supervise a PhD programme in data science and machine learning. Taunton and Somerset NHS trust also have a Nationally recognised on site Quality Improvement Unit with whom the digital team works closely particularly with respect to change management and benefits realisation. The successful applicant will have ample opportunity to develop interest and a project in either field if this would be a useful part of their personal/ career development.
