An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 12 month seconded post within the Violence Reduction Service (VRS). As a Violence Reduction Charge Nurse (Band 6) you will provide mandatory violence reduction training, give direct clinical support, post incident reviews and advice to staff in safe management of incidents promoting the organisational strategy in the reduction of patient restraints.
The VRS has a responsibility for all mental health staff mandatory violence reduction training. The VRS provide clinical support and guidance in the reduction of violence and aggression utilising primary prevention strategies to minimise risks and promote a collaborative clinical approach to Violence Reduction.
The VR team facilitates clinical support across Greater Glasgow and Clyde Mental Health in the safe management of patients in relation to the management of violence and aggression. We provide advice and direct clinical support within all MH areas and contribute to the direct support of the clinical care of patients reducing restraints by identifying pre-incident behavior and the implementation of violence reduction strategies. The VR team receives patient referrals from clinical areas to support and educate staff on the care of violent and aggressive patients and to provide primary, secondary and tertiary clinical interventions. The team Support staff with care planning, positive behavior/strength based approach plans, early recognition de-escalation plans and risk assessment/risk management.
It is essential you have a degree or working towards a degree in professional practice (violence reduction) and be a registered mental health nurse (RMN) with active NMC registration and have significant experience of working within the violence reduction service. You will also be required to be an 'A' grade GSA tutor with relevant tutor experience. It is essential and you should have the ability to work independently as well as within the team. As an autonomous practitioner you will undertake all aspects of the role as a violence reduction charge nurse and provide supervision and support to other members of the team and you will provide specialist patient assessment to clinical areas whilst working as a fully integrated member of the team.
You will be expected to have ability to work independently using your own initiative and without direct supervision. You must be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills and team working skills as the post involves direct clinical support and service development. This post requires membership of Disclosure Scotland's PVG Scheme. The shift pattern for this post is Monday - Friday 9.00am - 5.00pm (as per the needs of the service). This post will be closing on the 2nd November 2018.
