The Clinical Trials and Evaluation Unit (CTEU) is a research unit based at the Bristol Royal Infirmary in the centre of Bristol. Many of the studies that are run here are based in cardiac surgery and cardiology, but we also run studies in ophthalmology, general surgery, bariatric surgery, infection control and cancer. We are part of the wider Bristol Trials Centre, within the Bristol Medical School.

We have an apprentice position within the administration team, which is a great opportunity to gain insight to the administrative processes in both the University of Bristol (UoB) and University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust (UHBristol).

The role will be focussed on supporting the office administration duties, but there will also be opportunity to work in other areas, such as social media and providing support to the study coordinators.

You will gain the knowledge, skills and training opportunities to assist in the smooth running of an office. This will include supporting members of the team with general office duties, gaining a thorough working knowledge of our in-house systems, and developing good communication and IT skills, in particular with Office 365.

As our unit works across the boundaries of the University of Bristol (UoB) and University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust (UHBristol), you will be in a unique position to gain insights into the administrative processes underpinning two institutions and thus widening your potential opportunities going forward.

Once qualified you will be well-equipped to seek employment in a variety of educational and commercial as well as health care offices.

To help with the smooth running of the unit key tasks will include:

  • Distributing post
  • Monitoring CTEU/study mailboxes
  • Arranging and servicing standard CTEU meetings
  • Arranging travel (including for non-CTEU colleagues)
  • Update email lists
  • Induction and Exit Check lists
  • Scanning filing & Photocopying
  • Monitor UHBristol Honorary Contract expiry dates
  • Website and social media updates
  • Uploading documents to UoB repository 
  • Accessing the UoB finance and HR system
  • Interview Administration Support
  • Study support including supplying participants with study information, data entry and database testing.
  • General Administration Support to BTC/CTEU team
