Job Description


Method of Working

  • Barnsley College expects all staff to work effectively as part of a team or teams, delivering high quality education and support to staff and students.  As a minimum this requires dealing with people politely and tactfully, communicating with colleagues and students both formally and informally, offering guidance and information in accordance with College guidelines, policies and procedures when requested and contributing to the maintenance of the Barnsley College environment. In order to do this staff are expected to make themselves aware of the relevant policies and procedures. All staff are required to maintain confidentiality as required. 

Public Relations

  • Considerable importance is attached to the public relations aspect of all work undertaken by Barnsley College staff. It is a prime objective therefore that staff will at all times project to the public the image of the College as keen to assist wherever possible, and positively promote the work that is carried out across its various services.

Main Duties


  • To provide a clerical and administrative support service to the Marketing, Communications and PR team.
  • Key duties will include providing a press monitoring function via press cuttings and an online media platform; brand monitoring of all college sites; checking and organising stock; setting up for events; providing a meet and greet service at college interviews and other events; and data inputting.
  • To provide any other administrative duties as required by the Marketing, Communications and PR department.
  • Engage in the implementation of College Quality systems.
  • Show a commitment to diversity, equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practices.
  • Ensure that all information is secured, used and maintained in line with internal and external standards including ensuring that confidential information is processed in line with the Data Protection Act and College policies.
  • Show a commitment to ensuring that children and young people learn in a safe environment.
  • Participate in relevant and appropriate training and development as required.
  • These duties may be amended from time to time by the line manager in consultation with the post holder.
  • General Admin tasks, e.g. filing, laminating, photocopying.
  • Doing the weekly press cuttings from various local papers and an online platform to monitor coverage, and complete weekly reports about this.
  • Creating and checking the weekly apprenticeship vacancy listings and putting these on the website.
  • Weekly branding checks of all college sites and replacing posters/info where needed.
  • Setting up for events and managing stock in the stock room.
  • Keeping the stock room tidy.
  • Assisting marketing officers with press releases/events/other promotions.
  • Helping Student Recruitment with their interview sessions each week and providing a meet and greet service for potential students.
  • Staffing events such as open days, awards, graduation etc. Providing meet and greet service.

Apprentices must show commitment to the following:

  • To achieve apprentice framework (Key Skills, NVQ and Technical Certificate) within the specified time frame
  • Attend the apprenticeship induction programme
  • Attend all of the training sessions for the programme whenever necessary
  • Undertake any other required development work as part of the apprenticeship programme as requested
  • Any other duties as deemed appropriate by senior staff.
  • To complete training assignments and maintain a student portfolio, which will be assessed by an assessor
