Job Description


To provide first line support to Barnsley College Estates Department customers, assisting them with planned and reactive maintenance problems via phone and e mail.  The department manages and maintains several College buildings located around Barnsley town centre.

  • To undertake general clerical duties e.g. word processing, photocopying, maintaining filing systems.
  • To provide a high quality customer service.
  • To support the team in compiling reports and evaluation summaries.
  • To support the  Estates Department with front of house services including reception duties: greeting, signing in and out visitors, issuing and recording ID badges and parking permits for new staff.
  • Responsible for managing and logging all helpdesk enquiries (telephone and  e-mail) from inception to completion, including liaising with all college Departments, contractors & suppliers.
  • Allocate more complex calls to the relevant Estates staff member.
  • Coordinate and maintain the Estates helpdesk using ‘Richmond' planned maintenance software system.
  • To ensure personal compliance with internal audit guidelines and the Data Protection Act.
  • To assist with the functions across other College departments where necessary.
  • Engage in the implementation of College Quality systems.

  • Participate in relevant and appropriate training and development as required.
  • These duties may be amended from time to time by the line manager in consultation with the post holder.

Method of Working

In order to do this staff are expected to make themselves aware of the relevant policies and procedures. All staff are required to maintain confidentiality as required. 

Public Relations

Considerable importance is attached to the public relations aspect of all work undertaken by Barnsley College staff. It is a prime objective therefore that staff will at all times project to the public the image of the College as keen to assist wherever possible, and positively promote the work that is carried out across its various services.

Apprentices must show commitment to the following:

  • To achieve apprentice framework (Key Skills, NVQ and Technical Certificate) within the specified time frame
  • Attend the apprenticeship induction programme
  • Attend all of the training sessions for the programme whenever necessary
  • Undertake any other required development work as part of the apprenticeship programme as requested
  • Any other duties as deemed appropriate by senior staff.
  • To complete training assignments and maintain a student portfolio, which will be assessed by an assessor
  • Framework.

Apprenticeship start throughout the year and are open to any age of candidate.
