Assistant Production Manager (Workshop)

£29,958 per annum

The British Museum is seeking an Assistant Production Manager to work within the Exhibitions department. The British Museum has a high profile and ambitious programme of temporary exhibitions and displays and is the most popular tourist attraction in the UK. The post-holder will be responsible for management of the Exhibitions workshop and a small team of Exhibitions technicians in support of delivery of temporary exhibitions. The role is supervisory and hands-on and the post-holder must be skilled in carpentry and construction.

Key areas of responsibility:

•To support and supervise the fabrication and fit-out, maintenance and dismantling of exhibition set-works, mock-ups and scale models using a variety of materials.
•To manage operation of the Exhibitions workshop in compliance with relevant regulatory and H&S standards and manage and develop a small team of technicians ensuring work is completed on time, to budget and to a high quality.
•To advise production, designers, project managers and other colleagues on technical aspects of exhibition presentation.

Person Specification:

The successful candidate will have extensive experience of carpentry and construction of exhibition set-works, and have considerable skill using hand tools and workshop equipment. With an excellent knowledge of relevant health and safety, COSHH and other regulations, the candidate will have experience running and maintaining a workshop and will have a developed understanding different construction materials and methods. You will be able to manage a team, ensuring they develop and maintain the relevant technical skills and qualifications. As an individual, the candidate will be highly organised and resourceful, be able to work successfully as part of a team and be able to advise and communicate well with colleagues and stakeholders.
