Job Description

Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) Band 6, plus AMHP payment of 1,500 per annum (due for increase), this post also attracts an additional 5% increase on salary in recognition of being an AMHP working full time for the core team.  Bedford and Luton full time/ part time or job share considered.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to be a Band 6 AMHP based with the Luton AMHP Service. Working as an AMHP for the Service you will be responsible for providing routine Mental Health Act assessments (MHA) under part 2 of the MHA (1983). You will also be responsible to offer advice and consultation to multidisciplinary colleagues, regarding the use of mental health law; to ensure the timely delivery of a safe, effective, responsive and well led AMHP Service that is caring and maximizes peoples statutory rights.

The AMHP Service in Bedfordshire and Luton is commissioned to carry out statutory assessments under the Mental Health Act, (1983 MHA) for consideration of compulsory admission to hospital, Community Treatment Orders, Guardianship and related duties. The AMHP Service carries out this function on behalf of the Local Social Services Authorities (LSSAs) in Bedfordshire and Luton Luton Borough Council (LBC), Central Bedfordshire Borough Council (CBC) and Bedford Borough Council (BBC) under s75 arrangements.

You will be required to work closely with team members, service users, carers and other relevant stakeholders to support the development and transformation of the AMHP Service across the county; ensuring that the achievement of best quality and performance standards are met, in line with service user and carer expectations, commissioner requirements and Trust objectives. This will include reinforcing the values and expectations of the organisation through collaborative and dynamic engagement with service users and carers that is both supportive and encouraging in nature.The AMHP Service currently operates Monday to Friday 09.00-17.00hrs. You will need to be a car driver, with the flexibility to travel across the county and to be able to cover the needs of both teams, when required.
