Keep Scotland Beautiful (KSB) is the independent charity which campaigns, acts and educates on a range of local, national and global environmental issues which affect people’s quality of life. It is committed to making Scotland clean, green and more sustainable. KSB enables action on sustainable development, by helping organisations and communities reduce their carbon emissions and environmental impact so that Scotland plays its part in tackling climate change. The Sustainable Scotland Network is one element of this work.
The Sustainable Scotland Network (SSN) is a highly respected sustainable development initiative, working with, and providing support to, professionals in the public sector. SSN’s current work is focused on climate change, providing a wide range of communications, training, resources and events for public sector professionals. SSN is supported by the Scottish Government.
The post is part of a team dedicated to the development of the Sustainable Scotland Network (SSN) within the context of Keep Scotland Beautiful’s Sustainability and Climate Change portfolio. SSN is supported by the Scottish Government and provides a network for public sector organisations and their climate change and sustainable development professionals. This post is fixed term until 31.03.2018.
Reporting to the Sustainability & Climate Change Manager, the Sustainability & Climate Change Officer will play a key role in developing and implementing the SSN work plan, providing support to SSN Members. This will involve supporting public sector climate change reporting; analysing climate change reports and data; promoting awareness of climate change policy; and sharing good practice on public sector climate change action.
Applications are sought from candidates who feel that they have the necessary experience and qualifications to undertake this role. The ideal candidate will have good knowledge of Scottish climate change policies and programmes and experience of developing and implementing climate change/carbon management policies, plans or projects. Experience of developing and providing professional capacity building services, working with local authorities, public sector bodies or complex organisations along with experience of representing organisations in external fora and developing collaborative partnerships, is essential. Knowledge and experience of carbon management and relevant reporting protocols and professional standards, and the ability to carry out research and produce reports, are central to the post.
